IntroducingDavidKirby

We askDavid some keyquestions:
What is your background?
Over the last 20 years I haveworked across a
rangeof water and environment areas including
water infrastructure, wastemanagement and
water resources, aswell as projectmanagement
in themining andproperty sectors. I havebeen
based inMelbourne for four years andwas in
NorthAmerica for four years before that. Prior to
joiningBMTWBM, Imanaged theWater and
Environment units of a largemultinational
consultant. I’ve alsobeendoing a lot of workwith
AustralianWater Association (AWA) and
EngineersWithout Borders.
Whydid youwant towork for BMTWBM?
I joinedBMTWBM for several reasons; firstly the
brand reputation, and the cultureof innovation,
quality and client service; and secondly the
passion and ability of the leadership team and
their vision for theorganisation. The team really
want tomake adifference - I liked that, and
wanted tobe apart of it.
What do you see as thebiggest challenge in
thenew role?
Thebiggest challenge inVictoria is probably the
current weak economy. We are in adifferent
market now to a few years ago, andweneed to
increaseour resilienceby focusingonwhat wedo
best, which is providingquality solutions toour
valued clients.
Aparticularly exciting challenge inVictoria
is the implementationof theOfficeof Living
Victoria’sMelbourne’sWater Future.
This aims to take an integrated approach to
watermanagement with a focus on endusers.
This agenda redirects solutions frombeing all
about the assets, to thebenefits that society
will derive fromprojects. This paradigm shift
is huge andwill require farmore integrated
technical and communication skills to achieve
great outcomes. Luckily for us this iswhat
BMTWBMdobest.
